Voter Guide FAQs:

I want to vote for Zac Blanchard, but do I need to be a Democrat in order to do so?

  • Yes. In Maryland, primary elections require all voters to be registered as either a Democrat or Republican in order to participate in their respective primaries. If you wish to support Zac Blanchard, you need to be registered as a Democrat. If you’re a first-time voter, you can register to vote and join the Democratic Party at the polls or online. If you’re an existing voter who’s not a Democrat yet, you must update your party affiliation by the voter registration deadline.

I’m a convicted felon, but I’ve finished serving my sentence. Can I vote?

  • Yes! As of 2016, the right to vote was restored to formerly incarcerated individuals who have finished serving their court-ordered sentence. If you’re currently serving a felony sentence, you’re ineligible to vote until you’ve been released and have finished your sentence. You can register to vote by mail or online using the resources linked above.

What if I forgot to update my new address?

  • Not to worry, there is still a chance to fix that before Election Day. If you weren’t able to submit your address change before the deadline, you can go to your Early Voting site and ask to update your address on file before voting. To find your nearest polling site, use the “Vote Early” guide above.

I plan to vote by mail. When should I expect my ballot to arrive?

  • You should receive it 30-45 days before Election Day. If you submit it after the first batch of ballots are mailed, you can expect to see yours in your mailbox 5-10 business days after your request was received. We strongly encourage all voters to submit their application online no later than 7 days before Election Day to ensure that your ballot arrives on time and a scheduled time to drop your ballot off in the mail or at a ballot box on election day. You can also submit a ballot request at the Board of Elections or by mail.

It’s Election Day, but I haven’t submitted my mail-in ballot yet. Will it still be counted?

  • As long as your ballot is postmarked on or before May 14, 2024, or dropped off at a ballot box on election day, your ballot is guaranteed to be counted. We strongly recommend to send your ballot no later than May 13 to ensure it’s postmarked before the deadline, but you’re always able to turn in your ballot in-person at the Board of Elections or at a polling place instead. If your postal delivery driver has already picked up your outgoing mail and delivered your incoming mail on Election Day, we recommend you to turn in the ballot at the polls instead of at a Post Office to ensure your ballot is counted without delay.

Can I register to vote at the polls on Election Day?

  • Yes! However, this applies only to first-time voters, and not to those already registered who need to update their registration information. We strongly encourage everyone to register online in advance using the resources linked above to ensure that if there are any issues getting registered, they can be resolved without rush. In order to registered at the polls, you need to bring your State ID/License or use your social security number.

How do I know if my vote has officially been counted?
